Early Career Research Program

Applications have now closed and successful applicants have been notified. Details regarding the 2010 Early Career Research training program will be available from this website later in the year.

The Early Career Research@UNSW program is a researcher development training program offering structured support and training for one year for anyone new to research. Participants are assigned a mentor and attend monthly seminars with peers from across the university. Topics include:

    • grant writing
    • understanding the UNSW research infrastructure
    • getting published
    • applying for promotion
    • research ethics
    • research networking

Please see the yearly ECR@UNSW schedule for the full program.
These seminars and your mentor can help you understand what is expected of a new researcher in your field. They can assist you to align your research with university or national research priorities (in order to gain recognition and funding) and guide you in making strategic decisions about which opportunities to pursue in relation to journal submission, grant selection and how to ensure that your research has impact.

The Early Career Research@UNSW provides a supportive learning environment where you will have the opportunity to identify and discuss the barriers to starting or re-starting your research career with other researchers at UNSW and the strategies you need in order to develop your research agenda confidently.

Please note that the program does not delve into discipline specific research design or methodology. These are assumed to have been developed in the appropriate academic context.
